Taught by Mike Biltonen, this webinar is an introduction to the art and science of Holistic Integrated Pest Management (IPM) from a biodynamic perspective. We will discuss the basics of IPM in principle and practice, including the use of historical data, observations, pheromone trap monitoring, degree-day modeling, and weather forecasts. We\u2019ll discuss the various tools available to everyone as we triangulate the IPM cornerstones of observation, technology, and practical solutions, all with the perspective that there is more at play in your orchard than the eye can see. We will discuss a novel spray program framework as the core of the discussion. Growing good apples is important to us all and how we approach the management of bio-pressures is critical to our individual and collective successes.<\/p>

Mike Biltonen has spent nearly 40 years in agriculture \u2013 working mostly with orchards, vineyards, and specialty veg and fruit crops. He specializes in all aspects of sustainable orchard production of apples, pears, and stone fruit. An early passion for sustainable agriculture evolved into a profound dedication to the principles and practices of ecologically-focused, biodynamically-driven farming. The last fifteen years Mike has worked as a consultant to novice and seasoned farmers and orchardists alike on all aspects of establishing and managing regenerative and integrated farmscapes. He co-owns Know Your Roots, a novel and innovative family-owned company, with his wife Debbie where they are synchronously using farming and herbalism practices to heal the Earth.<\/p>
