Their vegetable gardens span about 1\/4 acre and consist of 21 different beds, which are managed on a 7-year crop rotation plan and with low-till practices. They have also cultivated many perennial plants, including a home\u00a0orchard, which features\u00a0various fruit trees, vines, and shrubs. Composting has been key\u00a0to their approach to sustainable and successful\u00a0gardening. Tom manages three different composting systems: vermicompost bins, larger compost piles, and leaf mold piles.
